LED Signs on the Oregon Coast

Can an LED Signs Function on the Coast?

The Oregon coast – beautiful and breezy, overcast and peaceful. At least, until a strong storm blows through or the winds pick up. That’s when the havoc begins. The ocean is strong, mysterious, and impossible to control. Sure, it feels nice to stand in the sand with the waves lapping your toes, but imagine what the constant barrage of salt, wind, and cold mist would do to your body if you stood there long enough. That’s what coastal building materials are exposed to on a daily basis – that’s why it takes a stronger material to stand up to coastal weather conditions.

The Problem With Corrosion

Metals and salt water don’t mix. More moisture in the air, causes materials to corrode and rust and stop working the way they should. In fact, humid, sea-side conditions causes metal to corrode 10 times faster than normal humidity. This is a problem for the typical LED sign which uses fans to cool the electrical components and silicone coating for waterproofing. These fans become corroded by the saltwater, causing the LED panels to overheat and fail.

The Heat Sink Solution

GDTech LED signs, on the other hand, are cooled with an aluminum heat sink. Aluminum, unlike other metals, is not corroded by salt water. This means that a GDTech LED display lasts where other LED signs cannot. With GDTech, you can keep telling your businesses’ story through high resolution images wherever your business may be located, whether you are a restaurant on the pier or a surf shop on the beach.
